Things to do after booking Osh to Dushanbe tour (or reverse route) with us 

After booking the tour JT004 - Dushanbe to Osh Pamir Highway Tour including the Wakhan valley  (or)  JT005 - Osh to Dushanbe Pamir Highway Tour Through the Wakhan Valley, please review the following points to ensure you are fully prepared for the journey: 

  1. Make sure you have the Kyrgyz border pass
    Despite the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is opened, but still to cross from via the Kyzylart-Bordobo crossing point, a Kyrgyz border permit is required. This can be obtained through Kyrgyz local tour operators or through us. To arrange this with us, please send us a copy of your passport and the date of your planned crossing. The kyrgyz border pass is not given on a paper or email, rather they record your passport details and you can cross on the specific dates. 

    Note 1: We only provide the Kyrgyz border permit for our clients. Unfortunately, we cannot obtain it for independent travelers.

  2. Ensure you have valid GBAO permit (and a visa) 
    GBAO permit is a must for every foreigner entering the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region. Ensure you have the GBAO permit and a visa if required for Tajikistan (for citizens of non-visa-free countries). 
  3. Make 10-12 copies of your documents
    Make about 10-12 copies of your passport along with your GBAO permit (and visa or registration, if your stay is more than 14 days) on one sheet of paper (double-sided is fine). The copies of the documents saves time at checking points along the route. 
    Note 2: if you enter from Dushanbe side, we will take care of making the copies ourselves. 
  4. Share the name of your accommodation with us for the pick-up
    We pick you up from your accommodation on the first day, and drop you off to your accommodation at the destination. Please provide the name and GPS location of your accommodation so that our driver can pick you up.
  5. Having money in USD is recommended when you enter from Osh side.
    Payments in guesthouses for food and accommodation are done in local currency - somoni. You can change US dollars in Murghab, but changing euro or other currency is not possible in the bank in Murghab (reported by our travelers on August 2024). Therefore, better have the money in USD. 
  6. Best exchanging rate in Osh (from USD to somoni)
    For exchanging money from USD to somoni in Osh, here is an approximate location. It’s between Mega and O! shops https://maps.app.goo.gl/3vai7wCbpHVdwrRq6 The rate is 1 USD = 10.40 somoni (when in Tajikistan 1 USD = 10.60 TJS). In other exchange offices 1 USD = 8.5 TJS. .

  7. How much money do I need for the excluded services? 
    1. Dinner, bed and breakfast costs 20 USD per person in the guesthouses and homestays (Only in few places it might be 25 USD pp.). Lunch you will have in cafes, and it will cost around 5 - 7 USD.   
    2. National Park permit costs 10 USD per person, if you enter to the area, but you can skip it. 
    3. For other entrance fees - museum, hotsprings, approximately 10 USD for the whole trip. 
  8. Weather in Pamir: get warm clothes
    The weather varies in Pamir due to the varying altitude of the region. Please check the weather using Google for Bulunkul, Khorog, and Dushanbe, close to the date of your travel, and get appropriate clothes. 
  9. Trekking to Jizeu
    Bring your trekking shoes. The trekking is approximately 8 km going up to the village, and takes around 2.5-3 hours. And then next day going down
