Samarkand to Dushanbe including Seven Lakes & Iskanderkul lake

3 days Cultural Tours, Hiking Dushanbe - Samarkand, Tajikistan

Description

Travel between Samarkand and Dushanbe in a way that turns a simple transfer into a memorable mountain journey. Instead of taking a direct taxi, this 3-day tour takes you deep into Tajikistan’s most scenic region — the Fann Mountains, where you will explore two of the country’s most iconic natural highlights: the colorful Seven Lakes (Haft Kul) and the legendary Iskanderkul Lake.

The journey begins with a border crossing near Samarkand, followed by a drive to Panjakent — one of the oldest cities in Central Asia and the gateway to the Fann Mountains. From here, the road winds through the beautiful Zeravshan Valley, gradually climbing toward the Seven Lakes, a chain of mountain lakes known for their striking and ever-changing colors. You will have time to walk between the lakes, enjoy the peaceful alpine scenery, and experience life in remote mountain villages.

The tour then continues deeper into the Fann Mountains toward Iskanderkul, a stunning alpine lake located at 2,195 meters above sea level, surrounded by dramatic peaks. Here, you can walk to a powerful 38-meter waterfall, explore nearby trails, or simply relax by the lake and take in the views.

On the final day, the journey follows one of the most scenic mountain roads in the country, descending through the Varzob Valley toward Dushanbe, with optional stops along the way.

This itinerary is designed for travelers who want to experience the highlights of Tajikistan in a short time, combining nature, culture, and adventure. It can be done in both directions — starting in Samarkand or Dushanbe — and works perfectly as a standalone trip or as an extension to a longer Central Asia itinerary, including the Pamir Highway.
